insomnia chat 24/7

FREE social network, chat and support for people who can't sleep: insomniacs

As an insomniac for over a year now, I have been subject to plenty of useless advice from people who have clearly never suffered from insomnia. Most of them don't even know the symptoms or what a night of insomnia entails. I'm sure you're all sick to your back teeth of hearing the familiar "stop drinking coffee" "count sheep" "listen to soft music" I myself know how frustrating it is to try and explain to someone who's never had it exactly what it's like. The best example I have is my darling mother, she just does not realise that my sleeping disorder is not just a 'bad sleeping pattern' she told me to cut down on coffee.. So I did.. A lot.. I've been more or less free from it for months now and she still won't accept it. I guess, as I always seem to say.. Us insomniacs must stick together.. It seems only we know what it feels like.. Peace and love guys <3 xx
P.s - it was lovely to see such a large response to my last post

Hello! yes i totally agree insomnia is difficult to overcome for many people its even harder when you dont have the support this is where insomnia chat 24/7 comes in handy. The chat room is coming along nicely more and more people are using it!So drop on in on us so i wont be so alone like now LoL. Peace and Love to All

It's five in the morning and I still am not asleep. It's kind of weird how I'm more awake at night than I am at day.

When I can't sleep I usually work out. Hardcore. Sometimes I'm too tired to do even that though. The music does help for me, but not for everyone. There are natural sleep aids like Valerian root, or you could go to a doctor and get actual medication for it.

A lot of it is targeting the cause and fixing it. Most of the time I can't sleep, it's because of stress.

And hey, you know you're not alone.

x Hope.

I am so sick of people saying, "Have you tried Melatonin?"  "Take a Benedryl"  Yes idiot I have tried it all!!  If only it were that simple.  I have tried EVERYTHING!  I hate Insomnia.  I've had it my whole life.  I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Agree 100% I was told to take Vitamin C and work out to make the body sleepey. If only it were that simple.

HA!  I have to laugh at the Melatonin and Vitamin C suggestions......they have no clue!  Those are like sugar pills to me!  I started having insomnia in college.....1997.  I was about 20, am 36 now.  I took Ambien, Sonata, benzos, I tried it all.  Ambien was a godsend for about 3 years but then it lost its effectiveness.  I didnt listen and started using it every night.  Went from 5 mg all the way up to 30mg/night (not safe and wouldn't recommend)  Then I turned to alcohol and mixed it with Xanax.  I just felt like crap in the morning.  So I quit drinking, which I did think helped. It has actually gotten better in the past 2 years, partly cause I think my twins wear me out to no end and beyond medication I kind of learned to let go.  I, personally, was becoming obsessed with being up all night and how it would affect the next day for me.  It stressed me to no end.  It was almost like a phobia, getting into bed at night.....knowing I was tired but also knowing sleep would be almost a miracle.   When I let go of that, it did help some.  Recently I got depressed and slept REALLY well....too well!  So now I am on Prozac, which I NEED but one of the side effects is insomnia.  So here I am again!  It is an isolating feeling because most people can fall asleep at the drop of a hat (my Dad, my husband, my kids, you know the drill.)  It was good to vent on here!  Another drug that worked for me was Trazadone....you have to take it on a full stomach and it can be sedating in the morning but you can try a small dose at first.  I also used Seroquel in 25mg doses.  I think your body changes with age and I can't tolerate it anymore but it worked in my 20's.    I can't believe no one is online.....are you all cured for tonight?  LOL  Thanks again for letting me vent!!!   Laura

thats the meaning of this site my dad's disgusting i have my mom

no regulars on this site ffs

can we talk ah

Laura,

I totally understand about obsessing how my insomnia will affect me the next day!  I start obsessing about mid day..."oh, I'm going to face another night without sleep, and then feel like crap again the next day..etc"   Please if you can think of some detail as to how you "let go".  I know it can probably be hard to put into words!  I'm trying to do that.

Truth be told cutting down on coffee is a good idea. It might not help you sleep but its not good for you if you cant sleep. Its kind of messing with you body a little there, like when you need it to function. The one I hate the most is "Go to bed" or "lazy" when you wake up at 2PM despite having only got to sleep at 9AM... if you're lucky. I'm an insomniac due to well having a busy head is the best way to put it guess. I find meditation helpful. I think more often than not people have insomnia because of stress or something in their head but people treat it like you're doing something wrong to your body. Thats why the meditation helps me, kinda sets me back to 0 and relaxes me.
Good luck xxx
